Misadventuring

To congratulate Miss Tron on her unexpected release on PSN, let’s take a quick peek through some of my favorite scenes from the Chinese Rockman DASH comic.

You're alive! That's wonderful!

You’re alive! That’s WONDERFUL!

Released at the end of July back in the year 2000, this manhua was done by the same artist who did the Chinese-only Rockman X5 comic volumes. Let’s see some pictures.

It's a lot like the game, only with more jokes and pratfalls.

Yup, just like the game.

The kick of fate.

Teisel looks very intense throughout much of the book.

Roll's driving is accurately portrayed.

Wily can be pretty intense himself.

Wily can be pretty intense himself. I always took it for an eye patch, but this artist seems to have gone the route of Wily having one eyeball with a black sclera. Eerie.

Eden satellite in comic form.

Juno can be pretty intense, too.

Juno gets serious.

Professor Data makes an appearance, and Rock shows off some of his victory poses.

Rock uses several of his different weapons throughout the story, but his favorite by far appears to be the splash mine.

He will spam it quite often.

Which all things considered, generally isn't a bad strategy.

They don't teach you about this part in Digger school.

They don’t teach you about this part in Digger school, not that Rock ever went to that.

Although a lot of the story points will look familar to anyone who’s played through the first Mega Man Legends title, there are a few scenes the book delves into that you won’t find in the game. Like Rock Volnutt as a swaddling baby.

Mega tot!

Another rare addition is the tale of John and Varley, the two Diggers who put Kattelox on the map. The English game doesn’t mention them by name, but it does refer to their story in the Library. They were first to popularly explore Kattelox’s ruins and discover high-quality refractors there some 60 years before the events of the game, causing a gold rush style population boom on the island. They also discovered something in the underground ruins that gave the island its current name. But their cargo sank and the two perished in a disaster at sea under mysterious circumstances, contributing to the gossip of a legendary disaster or curse upon the island and its treasures. The characters were probably named after the prolific science fiction writer John Varley.

In the comic Mayor Amelia tells the tale of John and Varley to Volnutt as part of the island's history. The comic is currently the only place to see art of the duo.

In his Digging days, Barrell was nicknamed “the Invincible” or “the Immortal” (written in Japanese as 不死身 or more literally meaning “un-dying person”) because of his tendency to survive seemingly impossible situations. In this comic, Barrel has another nickname: the Phoenix (不死鳥 “un-dying bird”). Because the kanji are so close to one another I’m not sure if that’s a translation error, a genuine regional difference, or just something the author wanted to do because it’s funnier.

Barrell the Phoenix rises again for Mayor Amelia.

That’s all for now. I have raw scans of the entire manhua from start to finish, but the files are large and I don’t have an account on any major file sharing sites. If anyone out there wants to help distribute it, let me know in the comments.

Th-thanks for reading!

Tanjou Scanlations has many raw scans in Mediafire.
If the manhua is too big for a single file, you can upload them in parts (pages 1-40 in one, 41-80 in other, …)

I wonder, the guy from Rockman X5 manhua also did Rockman DASH manhua. Well, DASH 1 was in 1997, and DASH 2 in 2000. This manhua contains ads or anything related to DASH 2?

We could always get a torrent running with the files? Or perhaps possibly we you could use mega or mediafire? If you need help getting things running let me know, I would love to get this distributed and possibly even scanlated! 🙂

Mega does well with big files. I’ve got an account there (and Mediafire too) and an interest in foreign video game comics. Send me an email or an ask on Tumblr if you need me.

I actually know someone who can read this. If anyone can post scans of the whole thing, I could probably get it translated.
