If Capcom were to reboot classic Rockman, what kind of changes would we see? And if they were free to make any game they wanted, what would the Capcom devs themselves choose to make? This edition of The Answer holds the answers.
First we’ll look at one from the classic Rockman section, then two questions from the “everything else” category.
Q05: If the first gen Rockman series were to get a reboot, what would the designs be like for the characters and their world?
CAPCOM: Their world probably wouldn’t see too many big changes, but some of the issues with the character’s designs themselves (like the way their joints work, or the Rockbuster’s transformation gimmick, those sorts of things) you could expect to be brought closer to reality to a certain degree.
Q06: Out of all the Rockman illustrators, who would come out on top in a Battle & Chase competition?
Higurashi: If we’re allowed to use our memory card saves, then without a doubt, it would be me!
Q10: If you could create any Rockman series game, no restrictions, do whatever you pleased… what game would you make?
Higurashi: If it could really be anything, I would say… Battle & Chase 2! With characters from every series! Crowds of Rockman fans could all gather online to play together! There would be this, like a long-distance relay almost, this huge large-scale race! (Laughs)
So Capcom doesn’t think Rockman’s world needs a dark and gritty reboot, they would just prefer his body parts to make more physical sense. Personally, I don’t think it needs a reboot or an art change (didn’t do any good for Mega Man Universe) but I digress. It is good to hear an official word from Japan on the subject.
A massive Battle & Chase online multiplayer game sounds amazing, provided you can set your own matches with friends and not just random strangers. I am not sure why only one member of the group provided an answer, since it seems like Ariga’s question was open-ended and directed to each. That guy really likes his Battle & Chase. I rather miss the days when Inafune would answer that query without fail, “Rockman DASH 3″…
“The joints should make more sense”, in a world where the laws of physics seem to be only loosely obeyed at times. :p
I always think they mean “cooler and flashier, with pieces that can be made into a toy easier”. Feels like it’s all about merch these days.
I’m glad they acknowledge that the series doesn’t need a big change of art direction.
