Some days aren’t yours at all.

Hey guys. Sorry, I’ve got nothing done for this Monday. It’s been a troubling couple of days. Here, please accept this humble card of Wily having a less than stellar day of his own. Because sometimes we all know how it feels when nothing goes our way, and all our best laid plans come crashing down around us. I feel your pain, Al.

Rockman vs Wily Machine 5
87. The climactic decisive battle at last!? Today is the day we finally settle this!!

Maps

Your pic this week is even more RockBoard! This is the official art for the four stages you play on, from the RockBoard Manual.

Fans of global geography will surely recognize that these maps were based on the real continents (and one country) of Africa, the United States, Antarctica, and South America. Or, as the game likes to call them, the Continent of Sand, Megalopolis, Cold Island, and the Green Continent.

Based on what I’ve learned from the game, in 20XX property prices will dive and a wide surplus of land will be put up for sale, urging on a worldwide upswing in commercial development that will be so accessible that even grade school age children will be able to participate. Better start saving your zenny!

Zero: Drawn to Battle

So, any of you guys excited about Marvel vs Capcom 3? I’ve never been huge into fighting games, but I really got into Tatsunoko vs Capcom last year, and now I’m totally looking forward to kicking some butt with Zero and Tron. Apparently their character endings have already hit the net, so those looking for spoilers can already find ’em. But not from me, I’m still shopping for a bargain/waiting for the price to go down.

Nevertheless! To mark the occasion of the release, here’s a quick look back at Zero’s first appearance in a fighting game with the rough sketches and designs for SNK vs Capcom: SVC Chaos from the Extreme Encounter guidebook. Of course, that was Zero series Zero, with moves and specials aligned with that style. Besides the iconic triple slash and a buster projectile, don’t expect to be seeing too many of these attacks in MvC3. After all, he’s “Zero, not Mega Man Zero.” But check ’em out anyway!

The Weird, Wild & Whimsical World of “Rock & Rush”

The Capricious Rock & Rush is the comic series drawn by Capcom’s accidental manga artist, Sakura. These and his other works have appeared in various Capcom books, fan club magazines and promotional materials, and were even included as unlockable art in the gallery of the PS1 Rockman ports (soon to be available on the PSN!)

His unique rendition of Rockman and his friends portrayed them as troublesome kids who get into some strange (or sometimes ordinary) adventures. Rock in particular is rude, rash, reckless, rebellious, and completely without remorse, which only helped the shorts in attaining their notoriety in Japan. Set completely apart from the expected norms of what Rockman was all about, Rock and Rush and its unconventional author were satisfied just to be making a few laughs doing their own thing.

What kind of thing, you ask? Let’s find out!

All Aboard the CFC Express!

Time for another Friday mash-up! Your free pic this week is the commencement image from the CFC Style Fan-Book‘s first issue. You may have seen it already in the Mega Man Official Complete Works book but it was printed rather small there, making it hard to enjoy all the fun details.

Here is the image as it originally appeared: Rock, Blues, Forte, Duo, Rush, and Dr. Wily can all be found representing classic Rockman, while X represents his own series in what was his latest high-fashion X3 armor.

As a bonus, here’s the version from the Capcom Design Works Early Days art book, that lacks the cropping around the edges. (The printed colors also came out a bit lighter.)
